"Fifteen years ago, I lost everything in the massacre of the Blue Night. My standing,my honor,This face of mine. Not to mention by beloved daughter, Yuri."
Ernst Frederik dresses similar to a bishop. He has white hair with the front standing slightly upward. He wears a white mask on his face, decorate with gold lines, that covers his forehead to nose. The mask hides the scars he received during the Blue Night. He also has monocle over his left eye. While he possesses the same turquoise eyes as his daughter and youngest grandson, they carry none of Yukio and Yuri's warmth, bearing a stern and uncaring gaze.
He holds a deep hatred against Satan and Demons for ruining his life. In the anime only arc, Ernst gave the order to have his daughter, Yuri Egin, killed when he found out that she was pregnant with the children of Satan, indicating that his hatred is unbound by family love. He also is against the Grigori's decision to allow Mephisto to belong in the Order, going along with his dislike for Demons. He recruits Yukio since he believes that he is purely human, whereas Rin has awakened Demonic abilities. As such, he hates Rin, and even attempts to kill him to open the Gehenna Gate.
After Yuri became pregnant to Satan, Ernst demanded his daughter to have an abortion. When she refused to get an abortion saying that humans and demons could live in harmony, Ernst ordered her to be executed. Satan attempts to save Yuri from her fate but had trouble to find a strong enough host which after a few tries takes over Ernst who miraculously survives though he does suffer sever burns. After Yuri's escape, he orders his men to find Yuri and kill her and her children. Ernst finds out later that both his grandsons lived..
In the anime, he is seen being attacked by Satan during the Blue Night.
He appears when Rin and Yukio are dealing with the masked man's attacks. He sends Bourguignon to find Yukio so he can chat with him. When he first meet Yukio, he tells him that he is their grandfather.
Ernst said that he needed his grandsons help to destroying Satan, all demons and even Gehenna with a weapon he has been working on. In return, he will be able to make both Rin and Yukio fully human. Ernst then promotes Yukio to the rank of Paladin to ensure the Rin will cooperate and further his goal of eradicating all Demons once and for all. Eventually they capture Rin and after sacrificing several individuals with the intention of killing Rin to open the Gehenna Gate. Yukio points out Ernst promised he would only cure Rin and himself not kill them only for Ernst to merely remark that he lied and Rin will die and be seen as a "hero" in history since he will have helped wipe out all demons. Yukio offers to take his place which Ernst accepts seeing it as a wonderful idea since Rin's blood might not be enough. When the Gehenna Gate finally opened up, he brags about his apparent victory and uses the weapon believing he has finally obtained his lifelong goal.
Unfortunately for Ernst it turns out his weapon was far too weak to destroy Gehenna or Satan, who has now decided to use Yukio as a host since he was the ideal vessel. Ernst falls into the Gehenna Gate and is seeming being pulled into Gehenna, trying to escape he pitifully begs to Yukio to save him. However, as Yukio is fighting for control of his body, Satan shows his son his memories and reveals not only what Ernst did but that Satan is trying to fulfill Yuri's wish for a world where demons and humans can coexist by merging the two worlds. The now Demonically enhanced Yukio grabs Ernst and demands to know why he tried to kill Yuri. Ernst quickly confirms what Satan had said by asking how he knew the truth, only then to point out he hates all Demons including his own grandchildren, saying they shouldn't exist only to then be sucked back into the Gehenna Gate and presumably banished into Gehenna where he will remain for eternity.
