Ernest Frederick Egin is an anime-only, non-canon character. He is supposedly Yuri Egin's father and Rin and Yukio's grandfather.

Appearance

Ernst Frederik dresses similar to a bishop. He has white hair with the front standing slightly upward. He wears a white mask on his face, decorate with gold lines, that covers his forehead to nose. The mask hides the scars he received during the Blue Night. He also has monocle over his left eye. While he possesses the same turquoise eyes as his daughter and youngest grandson, they carry none of Yukio and Yuri's warmth, bearing a stern and uncaring gaze.
PersonalityEdit
He holds a deep hatred against Satan and demons for ruining his life. In the anime only arc, Ernst gave the order to have his daughter, Yuri Egin, killed when he found out that she was pregnant with the children of Satan, indicating that his hatred is unbound by family love. He also is against the Grigori's decision to allow Mephisto to belong in the Order, going along with his dislike for demons. He recruits Yukio since he believes that he is purely human, whereas Rin has awakened demonic abilities. As such, he hates Rin, and even attempts to kill him to open the Gehenna Gate.

Ernst was a victim of the Blue Night, during which he was possessed by Satan and was also burnt by his blue flames.

Filler arcEdit
He re-appears when Rin and Yukio are dealing with the masked man's attacks. He sends Bourguignon to find Yukio so he can chat with him. He then claims that he is Yukio and Rin's grandfather.
He claims to have overthrown and dismissed the Grigori and makes himself the leader of the True Cross Order. He and his followers start his plan to kill all the Demons in this world, joining him is Yukio.
Powers and AbilitiesEdit
Ernst is an Exorcist and he is seen praying chants during the Blue Night, but his actual Meister type is unknown. He was powerful enough to sustain Satan.
RelationshipsEdit
Yuri EginEdit
Yuri is Ernst's daughter. He loved her until he discovered that Yuri is pregnant with Satan's sons. The Grigori then ordered Yuri to be sacrificed. Yuri was imprisoned. During the Blue Night, Satan was finding vessels and used Ernst to free Yuri so she can bear Satan's children. Ernst orders Shirō and Mephisto to kill her and her children, rejecting his love for her.
Yukio OkumuraEdit
Ernst is Yukio and Rin's grandfather, but they have never heard from him before. Ernst has lost contact with them after their mother died, but is now seeking contact with Yukio. He asked Yukio if he would join him in his quest to take control over the True Cross Order, and it appears that Yukio has accepted and is now rebelling. Yukio only accepted when Ernst tells him he plans to destroy Gehenna meaning demonic connections with him and Rin will be lost and they can become human. Ernst appointed Yukio as the new Paladin and head of the Japan branch. However, Ernst thought of Yukio and Rin as tools to his plan to destroy Gehenna and he uses Rin to open Gehenna Gate. His plan fails when he is dragged into Gehenna Gate. Yukio demands if Ernst loved his daughter and if he sent the order to kill her. Ernst replies calling Rin and Yukio demon flith. Yukio would have punched Ernst but Ernst falls into the depths of the Gate.
Rin OkumuraEdit
The reason why Ernst only approached Yukio, is because Rin already awakened as a demon. However, Ernst only thought of Rin as a tool for his plan. Under his command, Rin was sacrificed and was used to open Gehenna Gate, the door between the human realm and the demon realm. Ernst grinned as Rin was in great pain and coughed up blood, meaning he has a sadistic personality and does not care for both his grandsons, being the offspring of Satan. When meeting him for the first time, Ernst notes how Rin looks more like Yuri than Yukio.
